SF Boise River Update: I spent two days on the South Fork. The first day (March 16) was after a substantial rainstorm and the river was a total mess. The water was light chocolate when I arrived at noon and by 4 PM it was dark chocolate with debris floating. Come to find out, they upped the river flows that afternoon to 595csf.

On the 17th I woke to settling water and the clarity had improved to the point I could see the bottom at about 10 inches deep. It became cleaner as the morning progressed. By a little after noon I began fishing in light chocolate water. Shortly after, the warm sunny day started a rush of snow melt. The river immediately began turning darker. By 4 PM I headed back home.

I drove over to the Owyhee this morning to check out the flow. It is 950cfs and this is what it looks like at the first bridge.

Fishing Update: the Owyhee is blown out!! There is a two-mile section of river from the dam down that is clear. There is still ice in some areas where the deep lake sections are; but for the most part, water is flowing from the dam down the two miles. There were quite a few anglers on the water which made for a two-mile section very difficult. If you are heading over there tomorrow, get there early and find your favorite run around the dam area and sit on it.
