This group of flies imitates a mayfly or midge in its hatching form just before its wing develops. It's a very successful pattern because the fish recognize the fly as vulnerable and can't fly. Every time you attach this bug to your tippet, you're offering an "easy meal," and there are a lot of big, smart fish that prefer their dinner served without a chase.
