Black Gold Hardback Stimulator- Dry Fly Fish Idaho

If you have been following our blogs, you know that we have been writing about our fly catalog. And one of our premier flies that we have already talked about was the Black Gold Stimulator.  Black Gold Stimulator is hands down the best attractor fly I have ever used.  You can dry fly fish Idaho from high mountain streams to the South Fork of the Boise River and just catch fish like a gill net.  We are going one step further today and introducing the counter part of Black Gold Stimulator and that is Black Gold Hardback.  There are a few subtle differences between the two, but despite these differences, both the Black Golds are rainbow catching machines.  With the Black Gold Hardback there is no polymer hackle which means this fly will have a belly down presentation in the water with the wing sticking up.  Black Gold Hardback is designed to fish in slow currents; back eddies, and slack waters.  This is the one major difference between the two Black Golds, because only the Black Gold stimulator can be fished in any waters, fast or slow.  Black Gold Hardback can effectively be used to dry fly fish Idaho in the early spring to late summer and it was designed to imitate the spring stonefly hatches that come off.

Dry Fly Innovations ties this fly in two sizes (#12 2XL and #10 2XL).  If your plans for dry fly fishing Idaho bring you in the spring or summer seasons, Black Gold Hardback needs to be in your repertoire.  Black Gold Hardback has a beautiful olive brown body with a moose hair wing, which gives this fly amazing life like color properties to the real hatch.  You can dry fly fish Idaho anywhere that there is a stonefly hatch and it will catch all species of trout Idaho has to offer.  There is one more important aspect I must mention about the Black Gold Hardback and that is it can be used effectively as a stimulator pattern, which means there does not need to be a hatch in order to use it.  In the long summer days of Idaho Black Gold Hardback can lure in some big rainbows from the depths of the river, but just remember it is a hair pattern that requires some gink or floatant.  Come dry fly fish Idaho with Black Gold Hardback and experience some of the greatest blue ribbon rivers in the world.
